Never Out of Style

Friday, October 21st, 2016

Trends are fleeting, by their very definition. What’s hot now might be old hat next year – or even fall out of favor by next season. But there are some décor elements that have a universal appeal and never seem to go out of style. These classics are easy to incorporate in your home, and they’ll look great next to your trendier pieces.

Black & White

Black and white – This high-contrast combo is dramatic, goes with everything, and has a graphic appeal that always looks fresh.

Metallic

Metallics – The shine, warmth and texture of metal accents make their mark in any home. Metal’s dynamic shimmer can be festive and glamorous, and its muted patinas feel rustic and homey.

Images of nature have always inspired home décor. The size and scale of the flower depictions may vary over time, but you can count on them (as well as stripes and plaid) as a pattern staple.

You can gain a new perspective on your room by simply hanging a mirror. Reflecting natural light brightens the room, plus it offers the illusion of more space beyond the wall.

10 Accent Pieces We Love For Small Spaces

Friday, June 24th, 2016

Designing for small spaces can be challenging, but choosing the right accent pieces can help give your room some style without sacrificing valuable floor space.  The key to decorating a small space is to find the balance between function and design.  We put together a list of 10 accent pieces that are ideal for small spaces.

  1. Nesting Tables – Nesting tables are great because they can work in a variety of rooms.  You can spread them out to use as end tables, serving trays or night stands; tuck them back together to save space when you don’t need the extra surface area.

  2. Metal Bunching Table – Who says a statement piece has to be the biggest item in the room?  This single metal bunching table delivers on style with it’s eye catching design.

  3. Small Cocktail Table – Cocktail or coffee tables are a staple piece for any living room, they come in a variety of sizes, styles and finishes.  Choosing a smaller size table with drawers or hidden compartments for storage is a great option for a small living room or family room.

  4. Storage Ottoman – Having a piece of furniture that can also serve as optional storage is a major bonus!

  5. Sofa Table – A small sofa or console table can add a touch of design and functionality to an entry way, you don’t have to actually use it as a sofa table.  The narrow width and overall small size of this particular table would look great under a window filled with potted plants or herbs.

  6. Accent Table – Adding a piece of furniture with a little extra design element can make your small space feel a bit more exciting.  This happens to be one of my favorite items on this list!  I love the striped design element and tall tapered legs on this accent table.

  7. Round Accent Table – Accent tables come in all shapes and sizes.  We chose this tall round wood table for a more traditional look; the dark finish adds a little bit of modern character to the traditional design.

Area rugs can define a conversation area in the living room, a seating area in an office, or an eating area in the kitchen or dining room. They can separate rooms that have no defining wall and mark off areas by placing them on wall-to-wall carpeting. Throw rugs and area rugs provide an additional visual layer, making it easy to transform a room from cold and dreary to warm and colorful. (more…)
