10 Accent Pieces We Love For Small Spaces

Friday, June 24th, 2016

Designing for small spaces can be challenging, but choosing the right accent pieces can help give your room some style without sacrificing valuable floor space.  The key to decorating a small space is to find the balance between function and design.  We put together a list of 10 accent pieces that are ideal for small spaces.

  1. Nesting Tables – Nesting tables are great because they can work in a variety of rooms.  You can spread them out to use as end tables, serving trays or night stands; tuck them back together to save space when you don’t need the extra surface area.

  2. Metal Bunching Table – Who says a statement piece has to be the biggest item in the room?  This single metal bunching table delivers on style with it’s eye catching design.

  3. Small Cocktail Table – Cocktail or coffee tables are a staple piece for any living room, they come in a variety of sizes, styles and finishes.  Choosing a smaller size table with drawers or hidden compartments for storage is a great option for a small living room or family room.

  5. Sofa Table – A small sofa or console table can add a touch of design and functionality to an entry way, you don’t have to actually use it as a sofa table.  The narrow width and overall small size of this particular table would look great under a window filled with potted plants or herbs.

  6. Accent Table – Adding a piece of furniture with a little extra design element can make your small space feel a bit more exciting.  This happens to be one of my favorite items on this list!  I love the striped design element and tall tapered legs on this accent table.

  7. Round Accent Table – Accent tables come in all shapes and sizes.  We chose this tall round wood table for a more traditional look; the dark finish adds a little bit of modern character to the traditional design.

3 Simple Solutions to Transform Any Room

Thursday, June 2nd, 2016

We all have that one room in our home that needs a little boost, but knowing where to start and what that room exactly needs can be overwhelming.  The solution can be more simple than you think and you don’t have to break the bank to achieve the look you want.  So where is the best place to start?  This of course is where most of us get stuck, so often times we just give up or put it off for another day.  If you have been struggling with lackluster room, this post offers 3 simple solutions to get you started with your room transformation.

The first simple solution is to anchor your space with an area rug.  Not only does this give you a foundation for your room, but you can also gather inspiration to help you design the rest of your room.  In this post, I gathered inspiration from the color and wool texture of the rug shown in the photo below to help me choose the next element, and move on to solution #2.

Create a foundation for your space with an area rug

Set a Focal Point

The second simple solution to help transform the look of your room is to create a focal point, something that will draw your eye into the room.  This is easily achieved with a single over sized piece of art, large framed prints or an interesting wall clock. If you are working with a small room, consider an over sized mirror in place of art, to brighten things up and add depth to your space.

With the foundation and focal point set in your room, we can now focus on solution number three, which is lighting.  A pair of lamps will add a cohesive element to the room by repeating the same color, shape or pattern.  A floor lamp will add height and dimension to your space.  Or perhaps your room calls for a hanging lamp or chandelier.  You can set the mood with soft lighting in a space that is designed for relaxation, or use brighter light for reading or working at a desk.  It is good to consider both functionality and design when choosing how to light your space.

Enhance the look of your space with lighting

If you want to think outside the box, consider a modern chandelier with a touch of elegance. This lighting option adds an extra design element, great for a bedroom or dining area.

With these 3 simple solutions, you now have a solid foundation to finish your room with fun accessories or personal memorabilia. Add in pillows, throws, vases and plants to unify the color scheme and fill in empty spaces.
